I’m surprised you haven’t been using that at some U.K. pubs even before the virus.

Wetherspoons have had it for several years (it’s not a great bar chain for the food is okay and the drink is cheap enough).

But many bars and restaurants here are doing that now. If you don’t have a mobile, you can still do it the old way.

Enjoy your pint.

Restaurants near me were already doing this to cut down on wait staff. Your table has some kind of tablet, and you just mash the picture of the food you want until it comes to you! Beer too if they have it

There are a few changes that I hope don’t disappear when we emerge from this nightmare.

Having people spread out in lines instead of taking a shopping cart to the ankle every time the line moves an inch and things like yours where I don’t have to flag someone down to ask for another drink may be the top two.

It makes some degree of sense, instead of spending money for a tablet for each table (and then worrying about weather damage or theft), you can just rely on the customer to bring their own device. And since the customer can order right away instead of waiting for a server, you don’t miss out on as many impulse purchases.

Now we just need delivery via pneumatic tubes or something.

My buddy had this idea 10 years ago and actually rolled out out to a few bars near where he was in college. It was used a little at first but was more or less a novelty...Too soon junior

The local grocery store is completely touch free now. It’s like the apple store, you just scan everything with your phone and leave.

My company has installed wireless systems for a few retail point-of-sale locations like this, they started in airports about three years ago . You connect to the local restaurant WiFi, menus come right up (browser or app), order and pay on your phone.

The slickest one I’ve seen doesn’t require you to load an app (which some are hesitant to do) but redirects all of your browser requests directly to the ordering system. Once you place your order, you click through to the free WiFi. Re-ordering was quite easy as well.

There are some security/privacy issues for some, but generally a good system.

That would be awesome, though you may want to wait a minute after it arrives before opening... might be a little shaken up from the trip

It was so easy even I figured it out

I’m jealous that you have ashtrays at your outdoor tables, here, even outdoor establishments just put a standing only smoking area somewhere in the corner by the garbage cans and kitchen entrance.

Oh that’s coming here

I think next year

But tbh.. I need to quit anyway

Im being priced out

As is I think my tobacco is already 90% tax (12euros a pack ) and there’s talk of just raising the price of anything smokeable to a flat rate of 20 euros a pack

I kind of only smoke in certain situations - I’ll go 5-6 months without a cigarette, decide I want one, buy a pack, smoke 1 or 2, and throw the rest out when they go stale, and repeat. Would be very easy to quit, but I kind of enjoy it on those occasions, still prefer cigars.

My company allows me to buy two cartons a month at wholesale cost, if I want, but I only did that once when I was first employed, as it turned out to be a total waste. There is some sort of discount program on cigars that I’ve never fully investigated, but we just sold all our premium brands, so there’s less incentive to bother with that.

Ive smoked for about 20 some years now

I mostly use it as an excuse to get away from people for a while

And when I drink... alcohol and smoking go together far too well...may have to stop drinking to if I want to drop smoking

But won't know until I try I guess

Drinking is definitely the time when I most consistently get the urge to do it. If we still had smoking in bars, I'm certain I'd do a lot more of both, which is kinda the point of the ban, since neither is healthy
